Extractive Industry

Any processes that involved the extraction of raw materials from the earth to be used by consumers. The extractive industry consists of any operations that remove metals, mineral and aggregates from the earth. Examples of extractive processes includes oil and gas extraction, mining, dredging and quarrying.

It supports the U.S. implementation of the international Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, is part of the cross-government Project Open Data and supports the goals of the U.S. National Action Plan for Open Government Partnership.
